For the individuals who do not have a passion for fashion or knowledge about its extraordinary history, then they should step into the Swinging London: A lifestyle revolution exhibition at London’s Fashion and Textiles museum. It is a sight that will open your eyes and mind to how the 60s brought colour, style, and individuality into the world of fashion.

Within the late 1940s and the mid 1960s a sense of freedom, independence and change swept through Britain, altering the perspective of life and allowing personality’s to be expressed. This was the first time in history that clothing was geared towards the youth market. This revolution was lead by the ‘Chelsea Set’, and among this outstanding group of young individuals was the instrumental London fashion designer Mary Quant.

Within this exhibition one of Mary Quants astonishing designs the ‘Flapper – Style' dress is featured. It’s simple sheath design combined with it’s pale coffee and cream linin, oozes elegance and authentic 60s style. We couldn’t take a trip back to the 60s without mentioning Mary Quants most famous design and her personal favourite, the ‘Banana Split’ dress. The ‘Banana Split’ dress is definitely one of the main features of this exhibition. The modest A-line black and white jersey dress has both a simplistic and edgy style. This particular dress made a mark within the fashion world and it is still in style today. Another must see is Mary Quants trouser suit design, which is capped in a multi-coloured striped corduroy velvet. The bright power piece represents the movement of young women, including Mary Quant within the business world in the 60s.

This exhibition shows how influential Mary Quants pieces were within the 60s, and how they are still a muse within the fashion world today.
